As transformative and open access publishing agreements increasingly replace traditional subscription deals, many consortia are recognizing that legacy cost distribution frameworks may no longer be fit for purpose. The shift from paying for read access to investing in open access publishing services demands not only new financial frameworks but also consensus around shared principles of openness, fairness, and sustainability.
In this session, four consortium leaders shared how their organizations have transitioned from legacy subscription-based models to cost allocation frameworks aligned with open access publishing. Together, they discussed the drivers behind change, the factors considered in developing new models, and how these approaches are helping member institutions navigate and sustain the transition to open access.
